Obituary of Hazel Boone Smith

Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hazel Boone Smith, Madison, TN passed away on March 18, 2018 at the age of 83.

Ms. Smith is the person who bestowed the "Outlaw" name on the renegade music of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and others in the mid-Seventies. She would be regarded as one of country music's most important non-performers. Ms. Smith, however, was much more than that. A publicist, songwriter, manager, journalist, radio and television host, cookbook author and trusted confidante to artists and others in the music business. On Twitter, she described herself as country music's "Mother Hen".

Hazel Smith is preceded in death by her parents William Boone and Agnes Phillips Boone, both of North Carolina.

Ms. Smith is survived by sons, William "Billy" Smith and Terry Smith; brothers, Henry and Daniel Boone; grandchildren, Adam, Jeremy, Mattie, Tyler, Tara and Trevor; great grandchild, Allyson.

At the conclusion of visitation, Ms. Smith will be forwarded to Boone & Cooke Funeral Home, 7671 NC-770, Eden, NC, 27288 for funeral service and interment.
