McWHIRTER, VIRGINIA Porter, age 90 of Nashville, Tn passed away February 2, 2009. Preceded in death by beloved husband, Clyde "Mack" McWhirter; daughter, Lavone Beem; parents, Horace and Geneive McLennan; brother, Charles McLennan.She is survived by sons, Charles "Chuck" Porter (Gale), Steven Porter; four grand- children, Leslie Shipley (John), Jeff Porter, Carla Wilson (Kenny), Michael Dellinger(Amy); four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Virginia, originally of Belle Plaine, Iowa, attended Northern Iowa University and came to Tennessee in 1951.She retired from the Metro Board of Education in 1982. Virginia was a member of McKendree UMC serving in the choir and the United Methodist Women's Association.For seventy years, Mrs. McWhirter held various positions in the Eastern Star. An active chapter member of John B. Garrett Lodge, she passionately served as orgaist and grand organist. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who lived life to its fullest. She was an extremely gifted pianist/organist as well as an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. Visitation with the family will be at Madison Funeral Home Thursday 1-8 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Brock and Dr. Charles Poole officiating. Interment at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
