MURPHY, Athel Jr., age 64, died October 1, 2011. Preceded in death by father, Athel Murphy. Survived by wife, Mi-Kyong Murphy; mother, Georgia Lamb Murphy Grant; Son, Gary Murphy; daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa Murphy; brothers and sisters, Patricia Watson, Sheilah M. Andrews, Tammy Parnell, Dusty Grant, and David Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Gary and Donna Wallace. Athel was a member of Open Door Fellowship Church. He was employed by the state of Tennessee as a meteorologist. He was also a retired veteran of the Air force. Athel was a very well accomplished man with several honors and rewards. Visitation at Madison Funeral Home will be Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday 9:00 until service time at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with pastors Conyer Walker and Joshua Wallace officiating. Pallbearers serving: Ray Parnell, Chris Parnell, Daniel Parnell, Steve Parnell, Walter Slush, Hurbert Carter, Robert Brawner and Mark Hamaker. Soloists Billy Pugh and Gary Wallace. Interment to follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Open Door Fellowship Church. 1813 Welcome Lane. Nashville, TN 37216.
