Evelyn was a devoted daughter, wife and mother to her family and was much loved by many friends and relatives. She was a Christian woman, who always strove to bring people closer to God and know the love of Christ. She was very involved in the church and its many related activities, serving as an active member, Elder and Sunday School teacher in the Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, her home church since childhood.
Evelyn was a homemaker after meeting and marrying the love of her life while he attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. She and her husband, George, started a family, raising three children. She joyously welcomed and loved her grandchildren, always treasuring family time over all else.
Evelyn taught at and eventually served as the first director of the First United Methodist Church’s Jacob’s Ladder Preschool in Cookeville, TN. She loved children and enjoyed her time in these roles. She later stepped down to open an in-home day care, catering to her grandchildren and a few other blessed children trusted to her care.
Evelyn knew and loved the Lord. She leaves behind a loving family: George Earl James, dedicated husband of 59 years; Kim (Jeff) Harmon, Christy (Phil) Walker and Autumn Alexander; grandchildren, Bailey Walker, Cameryn Pritchett, Addison Walker, Cason Almendarez, Philip K. Walker, III “Trey” and George Nicholas James. She will be missed but is rejoicing in Heaven with those loved ones who have passed before. The family desires that donations be made in Memory of Evelyn James to Goodlettsville Church Service Ministry at 226 S. Main Street, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
