Obituary of Roy Hill Hooper
Please share a memory of Roy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family thanks everyone for the love you have surrounded us with recently, as well as through years past. Hard times are made much more bearable when they are wrapped in love.
Roy H. Hooper was born June 4, 1931, to Charles and Addie Lee Ragan Hooper. He was the youngest child of six siblings who have all predeceased him. Roy loved the rural farm life and never lived more than two miles from his birthplace; he loved living in “the bend” (Bells Bend) and would never consider any other place.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Jean Reese Hooper, sons Kevin (Teri Ann) and Jason (Kristen), foster son Mike Smith (Bernice), and grandchildren Hayden, Hope, and Ethan, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy retired from Metro Government after 25 years of service in various public works departments. He also continued farming until recent years.
Roy’s life-loves were farming, gardening, animals of all kinds, exotic pets, his family and especially his grandchildren, and ministry through Northside Church since its inception 40 years ago. He served as a deacon for seven years and elder for 30 years, as well as active ministry in numerous other areas.
Being very active all his life, Roy did not enjoy the limitations of aging and disability. He professed his faith to one and all, being clear that he was ready to leave this broken life and meet his Lord. He hated being in the hospital and begged to be taken home. At home in his favorite spot beside the window, he left this earthly life on October 3, 2019, as family and friends surrounded him singing Amazing Grace.
Services will be held at Northside Church of Christ Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
