Dorothy Honeycutt Thompson of Nashville, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 15, 2019; she was 93. She was preceded in death in 2014 by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Melvin L. Thompson. Born near Berry, Alabama, she was a native of Jaspar, AL, moving in her teens to Memphis, TN. She was, also, preceded in death by her parents William Howard Honeycutt and Ruth Johnston Honeycutt. "Dot" is survived by sons: Rev. L. Alan (Martha) Thompson of Thompson's Station, TN and Mel B. (Cheryl) Thompson of Franklin, TN; grandchildren: Blake (Tanya) Thompson, Lisa (Brad) Lawrence, and Chris (Kayla) Thompson all of Franklin, TN; great-grandchildren: Blake Andrew and Rylee Thompson; Marley, Rieger, and Finley Lawrence; Emry and Mila Thompson; a sister: Mary Lois (Wayne) Nail; brothers: Herbert Honeycutt and Dan Honeycutt. She was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Joan Alexander; brothers: Jack Honeycutt and Bill Honeycutt. Mrs. Thompson served faithfully for thirty-five years as a pastor's wife in the Church of the Nazarene, working full-time in the early years to make Rev. Thompson's ministry possible. She was known to reach out to the forgotten, express love to all ages, and was sensitive to the needs of the elderly. In the last few years she showed concern for, and interest in, those living in her senior apartment complex. Her family will always treasure the fact that she loved each of them unconditionally and prayed for them. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will begin on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at 12:00 Noon, First Church of the Nazarene, 510 Woodland St., Nashville, TN with Dr. Kevin Ulmet, Rev. Jimmy Blackman, and Rev. Jack Galloway officiating. Visitation begins as 10:00 a.m. Interment will be a 2:00 p.m. at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, 17001 Prairie Star Parkway, Ste. 100, Lenexa, KS 66720. Online tributes madisonfuneralhome.net.
